Just what is a BAR bill?
Can I choose how to receive my BAR Bill? Your BAR bill is available via URSA OnLine
. You will not receive a monthly paper statement unless you make
arrangements with the Student Accounting Office (B303 Murphy Hall). For more
information, visit the e-bill page.
When is my BAR bill payment due?
What is my current balance? You can review your current balance at URSA OnLine . How can I submit payment? You can determine the amount you owe and make payment with a credit card through URSA OnLine. If you prefer to pay with a check, you must download a Remittance Form for Check Payment and mail the remittance document along with a check to: University of California at
Los Angeles
What if I requested a paper
bill but didn't receive it?
What if I'm declining admission, I've graduated, or I'm not attending,
but have received a BAR bill
with tuition fees?
What if my BAR bill has been paid, but I won't be attending? You must formally withdraw or cancel your registration. Depending on when you do so, you may be eligible for a refund of all or part of your registration fees. (see Fee Refund Procedure in the Billing section of the current Schedule of Classes). Can a parent make inquiries regarding the BAR bill? Although parents generally pay the bill, federal privacy laws prohibit revealing the details of an account to anyone but the student. In order to waive this restriction, students must submit a Privacy Waiver to the Student Accounting Office. Click here for more details. Why was I assessed a delinquent fee? A delinquent fee of $20 is assessed if the balance due is not paid by the 20th of the month in which the bill is generated. In order to avoid being assessed this fee, it is important that you check your balance monthly, either by referring to your bill or by viewing URSA. Unpaid Registration fees will not incur a delinquent fee, but will result in a $50 Late Registration fee if not paid on time, and may cause classes to be dropped. Why were my classes dropped? If you pre-enrolled in classes but did not pay your fees by the published drop class deadline (generally the Friday after the term begins --- check the Academic Calendars for the term in question), your classes were dropped. Common Scenario -- A student who submitted a payment exactly equal to the amount of the registration fees without having checked the balance due was unaware of other charges posted to her account. Because the payment covered the other charges before applying to the registration fees, the registration fees did not get fully paid, and her classes were dropped.
Why do I have a Hold?
When will I get the Refund to which I'm entitled?
How will I receive my BAR Refund? You must sign-up for BruinDirect. This will allow your refunds to be electronically wired to your personal bank account. Click here for details. How can I confirm that my Reg fees are paid? Check URSA OnLine to view and/or print out your Registration Status screen.
What is an Overaward Charge? If the Financial Aid office decides to reduce the amount of an award(s) that was previously posted to your account, you must return that money to the University, and the charge for that reduction is called an Overaward Charge. If your aid is reduced, you will not see a transaction entitled "Overaward Charge" on your printed monthly BAR statement --- the reduction will appear as a reversed financial aid payment --- but the same reduction will appear as an "Overaward Charge" on your URSA on-line statement. What are IEI charges? IEI (Instructional Enhancement Initiative) charges are posted by the College of Letters and Science to most students in that college. The fees are based on the courses taken, and cost $7.00 per unit. These fee payments fund enhancements to the computer laboratories and eventual Web page access to all courses. The charges are not posted until close to the end of each quarter, so you must keep in mind that any financial aid you were awarded at the beginning of the quarter has already been expended and is not available to cover these fees. Click here for more information. I just received the BAR bill with Registration Fees for next quarter/semester. I know I'll be getting financial aid. Do I have to pay my BAR bill? The aid you will be receiving (Anticipated Aid) is listed on the last page of your billing statement.. If the aid is not enough to cover your Balance Due, you must pay the Balance Due minus the Amount of Aid. If the aid is enough to cover or exceed your Balance Due, you need not pay the bill. Note: IEI and USHIP PLUS are not considered Registration fees. Click here to see a complete listing of registration fees.
